Arabtec Holding plans to create 10,000 new jobs, targeting Arab youth, after winning its biggest ever contract.
“It’s one of our strategic objectives to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Arab World and create thousands of jobs for the national youth in these countries, enabling them to participate in building their homelands,” said Hasan Abdullah Ismaik, Arabtec’s chief executive in a statement posted on the Dubai bourse website.
The Dubai contracting firm on Sunday said it won a US$6.1 billion contract from Aabar, its major shareholder, to build 37 towers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Arabtec plans to reach out to Emirati nationals first, and then take its recruitment drive to the Levant and North Africa — countries where Arabtec has business.
The company recruited 3,000 people last year, it said.
Shares of Arabtec were unchanged this morning at Dh4.40. They jumped 2.8 per cent higher on Sunday after the contract was announced.
